Achimota located in Ghana-Accra is one of the oldest towns or neighbourhoods in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It is part of the Accra Metropolitan District (AMA).
Achimota used to be a distant village from Accra during the colonial times when development was still young. Achimota is now considered one of the big towns being part of Accra with other neighbourhood towns like Tesano,Dome, and Mile 7. Achimota lies besides the Accra-Kumasi road after Tesano. The Meaning of Achimota
Achimota means "Speak no Name". In the olding days, folk story says the Achimota forest was a place of silence and also a place of salvation. Slaves were said to have run and hid there for salvation.

Transportation in Achimota
With road users trying to access St. John’s, Dome, the N1 highway and other places through Achimota, the roads very quickly get condensed with slow-moving traffic. Ordinarily, you can easily get a trotro from Achimota to all major areas of Accra.
If you want to do intercity travel, Achimota has you covered. With its new bus terminal which has 800 vehicle parking spaces, 80 toilets, 10 canteen rooms, a clinic and a police station, plus a separate area for charcoal trucks, you can be certain to find all conventional forms /means of public road transportation here.
Transportation within Achimota is not a big problem, however, because the place holds one of the biggest roads in Accra from Kumasi, it sometimes get jammed with traffic. This was attempted to be soughted out by broadening the main road, however, going on the road at certain specific times and days like Friday evening, Monday Morning and Tuesday Morning wouldnt be a good advice if you really want to escape traffic.
